Diwali lights
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is one of the most significant festivals in India and is celebrated by millions around the world. This festival, which translates to “row of lights” from Sanskrit, symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists. It marks various historical and religious events depending on the community. For Hindus, it often commemorates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana, as described in the Ramayana
The festival is dedicated to various deities. Most notably, it honors Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. In some regions, it also celebrates Krishna’s victory over Narakasura or commemorates Mahavira’s enlightenment in Jainism
Homes are adorned with diyas (oil lamps) and rangolis (colorful designs made from powders) to invite prosperity and happiness.
Fireworks light up the night sky, while families prepare and share sweets and gifts.
Diwali is a time for family reunions, feasting, and exchanging gifts, emphasizing community bonds.
