Art Deco is a style of visual arts, architecture, and product design that emerged in the early 20th century. It is characterized by its use of geometric shapes, luxurious materials, and a blend of modernity with traditional craftsmanship. The term “Art Deco” is short for the French “Arts décoratifs,” which translates to “Decorative Arts.
Although Art Deco gained prominence in the 1920s, its roots can be traced back to the 1910s in Paris. It was influenced by various art movements, including Cubism, Fauvism, and the styles of ancient cultures like Egypt and China.
The style got its name from the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris, which showcased modern decorative and industrial arts.
Art Deco became popular worldwide, especially in the United States and Europe, during the 1920s to early 1930s. It represented luxury, glamour, and technological progress.
