Bastet the cat goddess

Bastet is an ancient Egyptian goddess revered for her multifaceted roles, primarily associated with protection, fertility, and domesticity. She is often depicted as a woman with the head of a cat or a lioness, embodying both nurturing and fierce aspects of femininity.

Bastet is considered the daughter of Ra, the sun god, and has ties to other deities such as Ptah, her consort, and Horus, her half-brother. In mythology, she rides alongside Ra across the sky, protecting him from the serpent Apep at night.

Bastet was particularly venerated as a protector of women, children, and domestic animals. Her connection with cats stemmed from their role in controlling pests, which helped safeguard food supplies and health.

As a result, cats were considered sacred animals associated with her, leading to their worship alongside her cult.
